What a private tour of Thingvellir actually is

A private tour is a vehicle and a driver or guide for your party alone. The half-days go to Thingvellir and back, so you get two to four hours in the park. The full days add Geysir, Gullfoss and, on one, the Blue Lagoon, and give Thingvellir thirty minutes to an hour.

Check the price basis before you compare. Some charge one price for a group of up to three; the others charge per person, and some need at least two of you.

Whichever you pick, you pay nothing to enter the park itself, because Thingvellir has no gate.

Why choose a private tour

Time in the park, not on a timetable

The Thingvellir-only half-days give the park two to four hours, against 30 to 45 minutes on a shared Golden Circle day. That is time for you to walk down Almannagjá, reach Öxarárfoss and stand at Lögberg, the Law Rock.

Pickup where you are staying

Most collect you from your hotel in Reykjavík. One lets you start anywhere in the capital area, and another meets you at Harpa.

Step-free options

Wheelchair-accessible transport is stated on the Thingvellir-only half-days, the SUV day and the Blue Lagoon day. The car that starts anywhere in the capital is not accessible.

A pace your slowest walker sets

Nobody waits for a coach to fill. If you travel with small children or older relatives, you set the pace, and every private tour here offers infant seats.

Private tours vs small-group tours

Your alternative is a small-group Golden Circle minibus. Here is what the extra money buys you.

For a couple or three friends, compare the per-group price on the Harpa half-day. For one traveller, a small-group Golden Circle tour costs you far less.

What you get, and what you don’t

You get a vehicle and driver for your party alone on every one, hotel pickup on most, and Wi-Fi on the SUV day and the hotel-pickup half-day. Those two also include all fees and taxes, and the Blue Lagoon day gives you a photographer guide.

You don’t get food on any of them. On the Blue Lagoon day the lagoon ticket is not in the fare either: lagoon, museum and exhibition tickets are excluded, so budget for them separately.
